Rajkumar Bikramjit Singh was born on 1st Feb.1965 in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur North East India

A Descendent of an illustrious Royal family in Manipur, music and sports was an integral part of their very existence.

Hailed as a "Child Prodigy", Bikram won many awards and started performing for National Radio, Television and Movies by the tender age of twelve.

Widely known for his heavenly expressions, through the Inimitable tonal quality of the instruments he performs on, Bikram inherits his playing techniques and breathe control of the bamboo flute, which traditionally is familiar to that of the Meitei people. His ‘Exceptional’ and ‘Unique’ technique, whether it be Hindustani classical, Himalayan or Meitei folk, Bikram arranges his scores and within it, an undoubted class and style of his own.

This prolifically creative musician, this ‘Meitei Prodigy’ has composed and played for over 200 internationally acclaimed Albums, Documentaries, Movies, including contributions to ‘Folk’ songs of different dialects around the world.

He had worked with renowned artists such as Karunesh of U.S.A., Prem Joshua of Germany, Jorgon Ohnemus of Germany, Chinmaya Dunster of Great Britain, Sashtro of U.S.A., Amarish Leib of Germany, Maneesh Vias of India, Marius Huesch of Germany, Atasa of Japan Zhubin Kalhor of Ira, Wind music of Taiwan and Tomas Mischoud of America to name a few.

From playing rock at the Osho ashram to jamming with Santana’s drummer, Bikramjit Singh gets trippy He belongs to the New Age musicians’ brigade who matches Indian spirituality with a Western perspective. Working with the likes of Karunesh and Prem Joshua, flautist Bikramjit Singh has gotten enough insights into crafting a unique sound. “I hail from Manipur but I’m now settled in Pune. My family is into music and that’s how I got initiated into the profession,” says the flautist who recalls playing rock music for people who meditate in the Osho ashram. “There used to be sessions in the ashram where Prem and I played for people who meditated. The combination of rock and meditation was fun,” he says.

Buddha Bar and other lounge albums have definitely catapulted Indian chants into a more commercial set-up. “We have a lot of youngsters who appreciate the kind of music we play,” explains Bikramjit, who will be performing at Henry Tham in the coming weeks.

The flautist also reminisces on his association with Nibadana who was Santana’s drummer at one point and was also part of the jazz fusion band Weather Report. “He has turned into a sanyasi and adopted an Indian name as well,” he says.

In conclusion it’s fitting to say, that listening to Bikramjit transmits the ‘Magic of the flute’ where one is invited to sit back, and transcend beyond all boundaries into his Mystical world of Music!
